Pippin is my husband’s favorite Broadway musical. When he saw that Pippin was coming to DC this year, we had to go. The Broadway National Tour of Pippin started a three week engagement at The National Theatre in Washington, D.C. and ran through January 4th, 2015. We attended Pippin on Dec, 27 2014. It was a matinee show and it was spectacular!
We came a little earlier to the show, so we enjoyed a walk on a beautiful sunny day watching the pigeons around the National Theater area.
The title character, Pippin, is the son of King Charlemagne, who rules over the Holy Roman Empire. Pippin struggles to find the meaning in his life. His search for the true meaning of life leads him through battles, orgies, and a brief experiment in patricide.
It is easy to see why Pippin won the 2013 Tony Award as the best musical revival. The production has sex, war, rock ‘n’ roll, magical illusions and dazzling special effects. Parts of the show resembled a Cirque de Soleil performance. Great, great show, one of the best!!!
Photography is strictly prohibited during the show, so we took pictures of each other next to the poster in the lobby.
