A couple weeks ago, Dave and I attended Pentagon Row’s Grand Re-Opening Celebration which featured live performances, large-scale ice sculptures, a show on the ice rink and more. Pentagon Row has undergone an expansive renovation effort and now has an expanded ice rink during the winter, a turf lawn during the summer, revamped outdoor dining areas, lighted water fountains and a stone fire pit.
Pentagon Row’s expanded ice rink is celebrated with a “fire and ice” themed event. This Ice Rink is now the largest outdoor rink in Northern Virginia, and the second largest in the state. This place is really nice. I love the atmosphere there. The music is great, not too loud, very soothing.
The Pentagon Row Ice Rink will continue the holiday tradition of its nightly snowfall every night beginning December 7 at 6:30 pm and again at 8:30 pm. We planned ice-skating here, but changed our minds because of the crowd.
It is a very pretty area and the Christmas tree looks beautiful!
Pentagon Row offers plenty of places to grab a bite to eat, hot chocolate, or a refreshing beverage.
It is a great idea to have an outdoor ice skating rink in an urban shopping area. This feature adds a lot of charm to an already pleasant development like Pentagon Row. This is a perfect place to take your kids or your date for a few hours of fun.
Guests enjoyed music by DJ Adrienne Almond, large-scale ice sculptures, penguin skate-aids for junior skaters, a surprise show on the new ice rink, and a s’mores station hosted by Hudson Trail Outfitters. Strolling entertainment included LED Hula Hoop performers, Sugar Plum Fairy, Jack Frost on stilts, Snow Queen, and a Fire Breather and Juggler on ice skates. Ice sculptures draw the attention of everyone, especially when a Fire Breather is performing around them.
And there was the Sugar Plum Fairy.
And an Ice Person, I guess.

People were gathering around the fire pit to warm up.
There was a grand finale later on, but we decided to leave. It was getting really chilly. 🙂 Here is a picture of the grand finale from the rink’s facebook page.
Dave and I had fun skating the next morning. The rink was empty at 10 a.m., so we had a couple hours of skating without a crowd. Someone is using a penguin skate-aid. 🙂
We will be back on this rink! 😀
