Georgetown Holiday Lights

Because of such a warm December this year, we did a few Holiday lights walks in the DC area. We saw the National Christmas Tree, the festive Old Town Alexandria and Georgetown, DC’s oldest and wealthiest neighborhood. Georgetown is D.C.’s top high-end shopping destination with numerous dining choices and it is a lively part of town. At night, particularly on weekends, revelers along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue eat, drink, and make merry.

Dave and I decided that it would be a perfect neighborhood to spend an evening during the holidays. Besides, there was an art event, Georgetown GLOW—the popular holiday celebration featuring outdoor public light-art installations that invite visitors to “re-imagine the season of light”. And we intended to see the new Ice Skating Rink at the Washington Harbor. Here is the picture of the festive settings near the Ice Skating Rink area.

DC Holiday Display Walk

Today after work, Dave and I went for a DC holiday stroll. We visited the National Christmas Tree, the Capitol Christmas Tree and Union Station. We did try to visit the National Christmas Tree lighting celebration earlier this week on Thursday, but we couldn’t get close enough to the tree to even see it. We didn’t see the lighting ceremony that evening, but we had a nice walk through festive DC enjoying the holiday lighting and decorations. Here are the beautiful Nutcrackers in front of Old Ebbitt Grill restaurant.

Getting into Holiday Spirit

The Holiday Season has officially started. The President lighted the National Christmas Tree this Thursday near White House. The streets, offices and other venues are decorated and lighted for the Holidays. Various Holiday events are happening in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area. Dave and I decided to get into holiday spirit by visiting some of these events. We have already visited ICE! at the National Harbor. This time we planned to watch the annual Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights at the Potomac Riverfront.

It was a beautiful day; the parade is supposed to start in the evening, so we decided at the last minute to visit the Scottish Christmas Walk Parade, which was just started. It took no time for us to drive to Old Town Alexandria, but after trying to find any possible parking there, we realized that our spontaneous decision wasn’t that good. The Parade was almost over, we finally were able to park our car at the nearest Metro station after someone just pulled out. We were lucky. 🙂 So, we gave up on the parade and decided to take a walk on the beautifully decorated King Street to the Riverfront, have lunch there, visit the Torpedo Factory and then watch the Boat Parade of Lights. We did enjoy our walk in Old Town Alexandria. Here is a picture of the cozy King Street.

Thanksgiving 2015!

Our Thanksgiving Day this year was eventful. 🙂 Dave and I started our day with the 90-minute Burn the Bird: Thanksgiving Hot Flow yoga workshop at Honest Soul Yoga (HSY). HSY is a Power Yoga studio in the Kingstowne area of Alexandria Virginia, which offers a variety of yoga classes every week.

The workshop was very well organized, studio was hot enough, so we felt like we accomplished something before indulging ourselves with the Turkey dinner. 🙂 We felt good about donating the workshop fees with all proceeds to the USO-Metro, a nonprofit organization dedicated to “serving those who serve, and their families” in Washington D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. Here is our group picture right after the workshop.

Pizza at Bertucci’s

Dave and I did a lot of shopping today and stopped at Bertucci’s restaurant for lunch. Cute place and a brick oven baked pizza was delicious. It think we will be visiting this place more often. 🙂

It’s all about the View

Autumn is so beautiful in Virginia. Dave and I decided to visit Shenandoah National Park this weekend during the height of fall foliage. We were thinking about taking a hike there, but the weather was quite chili for a hike, so we ended up taking Skyline Drive stopping at the overlooks, enjoying the incredible vistas and taking a lot of pictures.

Pumpkin Season

I stopped at Nalls today and was stunned by the variety of pumpkins. Nalls is my favorite local produce store. It is always neat and very cute, but today it was like pumpkin heaven there.

AZ/UT Road Trip Day 9 – Last Day & Itinerary

This post is about the last day of our Arizona-Utah road trip and the itinerary. Since our flight departure was scheduled around 1 pm, we didn’t have time to do anything else, but to drive from Sedona to Phoenix International airport. I posted a few pictures from the road below. Our itinerary by day follows the pictures.
