Pumpkin Hill is open now at Nalls Produce and it is absolutely beautiful! Dave and I enjoyed this event during our visit last year and couldn’t miss it this year. Here we found dozens of varieties of specialty pumpkins plus awesome up to 800 lb pumpkins and tons of pumpkins ready for carving. The little ones can meet Penny the pig, dig for treasure, and climb the Pumpkin Wall for photos! Lots of fun for everyone. It wouldn’t be fall without visiting Nalls!
The landscape and climate of Virginia offers countless choice sites for vineyards. Each of the state’s main regions boast vineyards and wineries. Dave and I have been living in Virginia for 9 years now, but this was the first time we got to visit a Virginia vinery. We chose the family owned Pilip Carter vinery in Hume, VA. We scheduled our visit a month ahead, but weather wasn’t great this day. Nevertheless, we had an amazing time.
Dave and I visit Florida every year, because we have family there. We always have a nice time in Florida, but we were looking forward to spending some time on the beach as well. It is August, the warmest month of the year, which means that water in the ocean is incredibly warm at this time and the beaches are just beautiful there.
This year’s 4th of July we celebrated at the National Mall. When we started living in the DC metro area, the first 3 years we enjoyed the Independence Day fireworks in Washington, DC. Then, we explored various options and places to celebrate the 4th of July and view other fireworks. We’ve been to the party at the mansion in Maryland, on the USS Constellation historic ship in Baltimore and numerous times on the beach among others. Here are a couple posts of our Independence Day celebration at Mount Vernon and at Virginia Beach, but there is nothing more impressive than the fireworks at the National Mall.
During our flight from Kiev to Washington, we stayed over night in Vienna. We arrived in Vienna in the afternoon and after checking into the hotel, we took the metro (U-Bahn) to the center of the city. We did some walking, had some food in a local café and then arrived at Maria Theresian Platz, where our scheduled walking city tour was supposed to start. However, we ran of luck by then, because the rain started pouring pretty hard and our tour was canceled. Even though we still did some sightseeing, we stopped taking pictures due to the weather conditions. That is why there is only a limited amount of pictures from Vienna in this post, mostly from Maria Theresian Platz.
Maria Theresien Platz (Maria Theresa Square) is a square in Vienna city center, mostly known as the location of the twin museums facing each other, the Museum of Natural History (Naturhistorisches Museum) and the Museum of Fine Arts (Kunsthistorisches Museum), which is in the picture above.
Dave and I didn’t have much time to spend in Kiev, but we were able to see some of Kiev’s main attractions. Among them are Pechersk Lavra and Andrew’s Descent. Andrew’s Descent (also known as Аndriyivskyy Uzviz) is one of the most beautiful and famous streets in Kiev.
We started our Kiev sightseeing from Kiev Pechersk Lavra also known as the Kiev Monastery of the Caves, which is a historic Orthodox Christian monastery, built on top of a massive series of tunnels. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the largest museums in Kiev with many sub-museums held within it. Pechersk Lavra is the first and the most ancient monastery on the territory of contemporary Ukraine. The monastery was founded in the mid-11th century by the venerable Anthony and Theodosius of the Caves (of “Pechersk”). Here we are entering Pechersk Lavra in the picture above.
