Dave and I finally got to take our introductory flying lessons at the Freeway Airport near Bowie, MD. We had a good deal on the flight lesson tickets, which we bought in April, but decided to use them just now, in September. Our flight route was over the Chesapeake Bay and downtown Annapolis with FAA-certified flight instructors from Freeway Aviation.
We hit no traffic on our way to the airport because it was Saturday, so we got there half an hour early. This is a neat smaller airport with cute little airplanes. We registered for our flight lessons and went exploring the airport surroundings.
The dog, named Runway, is the flight team’s favorite. 🙂 He is in the doorway.
There is a very short walk to the plane.
Almost ready for our flying lessons in a Cessna 172 aircraft. Our lesson started with brief ground instructions that introduced the mechanics and functions of the plane and its controls. Then, we experienced 40 minutes of flight time. Aspiring pilots can log the flight time to put toward a pilot’s license.
Take off.
The first flight I was the “pilot” and Dave was a passenger, but we switched places on the second flight. Our instructor performed the take off and landing, but we were able to practice the four fundamentals of flight: climbs, turns, descents and straight and level flight. I tried to keep up with the horizon line with great concentration. 🙂
The weather was perfect with great visibility. Approaching Chesapeake Bay.
Here is the Chesapeake Bay bridge in the picture below.
View of Annapolis from the air.
Heading back to the airport.
Our plane landed. We enjoyed our flying lessons, beautiful aerial view and warm sunny weather. We tried something new today – time well spent!
Here is 6-minute video of our flights. It is kind of shaky due to the turbulence. It is a small plane. 🙂
After our flying lessons, we stopped at the Mongolian Stir Fry for an early dinner. It is a neat place, but we weren’t impressed with the food there.
