This Sunday Dave and I drove to the closest beach to our home, Colonial Beach, which is located in the riverside resort town of the same name. Colonial Beach is a nice, small town on the Potomac River with a small beach. The sand is a little coarse, but soft and the water is very calm. There are a few businesses on the short boardwalk area, like a beach shop and restaurant.
We parked across the street from the pier and went for a walk on the beach to find a place for a swim.
Ducks are hiding under the wooden bridge. 🙂
We saw a couple fishing piers.
It was a very nice day. The beach is about a half mile long. We took a swim, water felt nice and warm, but Dave said that the water didn’t taste or smell the same as the ocean.
We drove along the beach until the end where we found a marina and another restaurant.
We saw a cute trolley on the road.
Later we stopped at the boardwalk restaurant “High Tides” for dinner. There is an outside bar with live music starting around 4 P.M.
We chose a table on the restaurant’s patio and enjoyed our dinner and the view. It is a cute little place, but we prefer the ocean, so next time we will most likely go to Ocean City or Virginia Beach.
On the way home we stopped at a farm stand on the side of the road. I am glad we did. We bought the freshest local vegetable and fruits there. In conclusion, for a quaint area to get away from the city vibe while still in the DC area, Colonial Beach is worth a try. It’s a trip back in time…
