The morning on Valentine’s Day held a surprise for me. I walked into the leaving room and had a bunch of balloons raining down on me. Just like during a New Year’s Eve Celebration. It was so nice and sweet of my husband! He knows how much I enjoy balloons like that. 🙂

In this post I just want to mention some activities that we were involved recently, or we are still keeping up with. Starting in September, we had 5 kayaking classes through the Robert E Lee Recreation Center, which were a light workout and fun. We never tried kayaking before, but it was fairly easy on the nice and calm Lake Accotink. Besides, the weather was beautiful most of the time, which made our kayak rides even more enjoyable.
Just want to share these beautiful rare views of the clouds we saw the other day while driving home after our late lunch.
By the time we decided to book the hotel on the beach at Ocean City, they were all sold out. I guess, one week in advance is not enough time to get a hotel reservation there. This weekend was supposed to be very hot, so we made a decision to go to the beach anyway, just for the day. We were not disappointed. Our little “beach house” was very handy on the beach. 🙂
This weekend we visited the Seven Oaks Lavender Farm in Catlett, VA. The farm was open to visitors for the last weekend, so the lavender blossoms were almost gone. We still had a good time spent outdoors and enjoyed a beautiful ride to the farm.
This Saturday we went to check out the Occoquan park and historic Occoquan town. It is a nice and short 20 minute ride from our home. Occoquan Regional Park is a place of entry to several key hiking trails, including the Fairfax Cross-County Trail and Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.
The boat launch and marina provide easy access to a day exploring or fishing the Occoquan River. The park offers various recreational activities such as batting cages, soccer fields, kayaking and numerous barbeque areas including gazebos. The river banks looked beautiful.
Shortcut to Europe means that most European embassies will open their doors to the public from 10 am until 4 pm, offering a rare look inside the buildings. The day will provide a unique opportunity to experience the country’s cultural heritage and national traditions.
This Saturday Dave and I decided to dedicate to visiting Theodore Roosevelt island. Located just south of Georgetown, the Island offers an excellent opportunity for city folk to enjoy the great outdoors. Theodore Roosevelt Island is a memorial to America’s 26th president, in recognition of his contributions to conservation. The large statue of Teddy is erected at the memorial plaza of the island.
Dave and I had a good time today enjoying the Cherry Blossom Parade and the Renwick Gallery. We’d heard about the amazing “Wonder” Exhibition at the Renwick Gallery for a while and were finally able to visit it today. The weather was beautiful, so we decided to start our day with the Cherry Blossom Parade followed by the Renwick Gallery visit and finishing with a walk to CityCenterDC.
