Last Saturday Dave and I went for another tandem skydive. This time we jumped from DC Skydiving Center in Warrenton, VA. Surprisingly, everything was very organized. After signing all the necessary wavers, weighing in and taking a quick class on the grass near the center with the group, we moved towards the plane. The details of our previous skydiving in Delmarva, DE I described here.
Our skydive was scheduled for 1 p.m. By this time, the DC Skydiving Center became somewhat crowded.
Dave and I were with a group of 13 other people, who we usually go skiing with. It was nice to see them again and catch up.
In this picture we are equipped and ready to board the plane.
Since the plane can handle only 12 people at the time, we had to jump in separate groups.
The most exciting part, leaving the plane. Honestly, it wasn’t as exciting for Dave and me the second time, because we knew what to expect.
The process of jumping was pretty much the same as in Delmarva. The only difference was in the jump itself. This time we didn’t have to scoot on our knees to the plane’s entrance. Instead, we walked quickly to the door and sat on the door’s edge with our legs hanging out of the plane. And then… jumped, or more like slid from the plane. Here is Dave with his tandem instructor ready to jump. 🙂
The free fall didn’t feel as dramatic, the wind didn’t seemed quite as strong, and I was able actually to look around without freeking out. 🙂 It was really enjoyable once the instructor opened the main parachute.
Everything went well and we were happy be back on Earth. We took some pictures while waiting for our fellow-skydivers to complete their jumps. Dave used a telephoto lens and took some nice shots from far away.
It was a beautiful, warm and sunny day. Some people had a picnic and watched the skydivers landing pretty close up.
Then we all drove over to Molly’s Irish pub in Warrenton to celebrate and share our experiences.
We had a lot of fun this day. We are glad that we did it again! 🙂
