The second week of June Dave and I spent in Cancun, Mexico. At least one of my friends that I know of is going to visit Cancun soon, so I decided to put together our trip to Cancun itinerary. It might be helpful for someone else as well. 🙂 We booked our trip, which included airfare and hotel through expedia.com, since expedia offered non-all-inclusive option. I found booking.com a helpful and informative site for researching. This site provides detailed hotel descriptions, a wonderful interactive map (see screenshot) and reviews. We chose Gran Melia Resort:
We booked non-all-inclusive option, because we scheduled 6 excursions with meals included in most of them. Almost all of them were scheduled through cancunadventure.net. We cannot complain about this company. The transportation was always on time. Buses/minivans were air-conditioned and comfortable. Included meals were tasty. Â Besides, there was a discount for the tour package:
Our vacation schedule:
Day 0 – Arrival in Cancun
Day 1 – Nothing booked
Day 2 – Xel-Ha Dolphinclusive
Day 3 – Coba Maya Encounter Expedition
Day 4 – Chichen Itza Light and Sound (only Wednesdays)
Day 5 – Xcaret Plus Tour
Day 6 – Discover Scuba Diving
Day 7 – Xplor Tour
Day 8 – Departure to DC
After flying 2 hours from DC we had about a 4 hour connection in Miami. Miami International is a huge airport. It was very hot outside and freezing in the airport. There wasn’t much to do in the airport and wasn’t enough time to go to the city, so we hung out in a little park at the airport area.
We had a couple sandwiches at the Cuban restaurant La Carreta. Sandwiches were not bad, too much meat and cheese though.
There was an interesting poster on the wall at the airport.
We caught a sunset on the flight to Cancun.
At the Cancun Airport be aware of the time-share sales people. They are very aggressive. We just kept moving forward focusing on the front door and saying “No, Thank You.” over and over, until we finally escaped. We booked the transportation from Cancun airport to our hotel online with BestDay company. They were quick and efficient. Finally, we arrived at our hotel. Gran Melia looked beautiful.
The lobby is set up in an indoor rain forest:
Our room was modern, spacious and was very comfortable. Here are some pics:
